Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Review - Awesome Fun!!

Here it is the end of March and I still haven't told y'all about our BIG night out a few weeks ago!!

Can I just say that Big Trucks with Big Tires ROCK OUT LOUD!?  We went to the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam a few Fridays back.  IT WAS 2 HOURS OF SERIOUSLY LOUD and AMAZING TRUCK POWER!!  WHY AM I YELLING?  Oh...sorry.  It was THAT awesome.  And loud.  Really, really loud.  But I cannot remember the last time I had so much fun with my boys!  How many more exclamation marks can I fit into this first paragraph?!  I know.  Major overuse of punctuation.  But it was seriously THAT much fun!

I've never attended a Monster Truck event,so I had no idea just how entertaining the show would be.   I also had no idea how LOUD it would be.  But the loudness is part of the experience.  The huge engines make the ground rumble and fill the arena with so much engine noise that you can't help but feel the power that propels the giant trucks forward as leap small cars in a single bound and crush things under their ginormous tires.

I don't know about you, but as a Boymom I have learned alot about how boys react to that kind of power.  They get very, very excited.  They do things like this:

(See the crazy kid in the bottom right hand corner grabbing his hair?
That would be Big Brother at the height of his Monster Truck insanity.)

Then they spend lots of time talking about how they can't wait to build a truck so they can do things like this:

And sometimes when they do that, they end up like this:

Which might be kind of scary for a mom of the driver to watch.  The good news is that there are lots of safety precautions in place to protect the drivers and the audience from any harm.  No drivers or workers were injured during the making of these videos!

In between the truck runs, there were ATV races and local drivers in various vehicles that ran timed laps to see who could run the course the fastest, so there was always something to watch while the Monster Trucks prepared for the next round and there were lots of chances to catch t-shirts that drivers threw into the audience, but never in our direction (that was kind of a bummer for Little Man, who was working hard to catch the attention of the t-shirt throwers.  Too bad I didn;t get a video of him in action, the boy was seriously workin' it!).

There were some new trucks at the show this year that we weren't familiar with, like Monster Mutt and the Batman Truck.

The Batman truck quickly became a favorite for looks, but our family has been following Grave Digger since the boys were little, so we were really rooting for Grave Digger to pull in a big score in the Freestyle event.  So we were a little sad when the show ended with Grave Digger taking a roll on his final run.

Even with the anti-climatic ending, the show was a hoot and we can't wait til another one comes to town!

Wanna see when the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam is gonna be in your neck of the woods?  Check out their website here to find out show dates and ticket prices and watch the leaderboard to see how your favorite truck and driving team are doing throughout the season.  And I challenge you not to walk around talking like the show announcer for 3 days after the show..."2 Tons of awesome POWER, Power, Power!"

**Disclaimer - As a Feld Family Activator, I received tickets to the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam to help facilitate this review.  My opinions are always honest and are my own.**

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam is Coming to Boise!!

From the time Big Brother was born to this very day, Big Brother has been infatuated with great big trucks.  He got his first truck when he was not quite 2 years old.  He picked out an awesome red monster truck that made lots of engine revving noises when he pushed it around.  He LOVED that truck.  He had a complete meltdown when we took it from him so the cashier could ring it up, because I guess he thought he wasn't going to get it back.  His collection of trucks grew quickly as grandmas and friends learned fo his obsession.

Because I am a Boymom,  I quickly found myself immersed in his world, checking out library books and finding videos that helped him learn everything there was to know about Monster Trucks.  Grave Digger and Big Foot were his two favorites, but we never got to a Monster Truck show to let him see them in action.

So he was very excited to learn last week that, courtesy of Feld Entertainment,  we will be attending the Advance Auto Parts Monster Truck Jam in March!  In fact, his exact words were "Sweet, Mom!"  And as it happens, this is the 30th Anniversary of Grave Digger, so it will be fun for our family to help one of our favorite trucks celebrate its big birthday this year.

In addition to the Grave Digger Anniversary events, 2 more trucks have been added to the show, bringing the total from the usual 6 to 8 this year.  Favorites like Batman, Maverick and Monster Mutt will be there to compete in Wheelie, Racing and Freestyle  events that are sure to bring roars of appreciation from Idaho Monster Jam fans!

The Advance Auto Parts Monster Truck Jam will take place at the Idaho Center in Nampa on March 16th and 17th, 2012.  The Friday night show starts at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday hosts 2 shows: a 2 p.m. matinee and a final 7:30 evening show.  Fans who plan on attending the Saturday matinee show can purchase Pit Party tickets along with their show tickets, which will give them access to a pre-show event where they can meet drivers and see the trucks up close!

The Circus Was Here!

Ringling Bros. Barnum Bailey, along with Feld Entertainment, really does put on a great show...this year's Funundrum totally lived up to it's name!  Lots of action and non-stop thrills!  My boys loved the Bionic Brothers with their feats of strength and balance.  Their other favorite act was the Torres Family, who ride motorcycles in the steel cage (they talked about that for days after the performance).  Here are a few pics, along with some info on where you can get tickets when it comes to YOUR hometown!

Be sure to check Ringling Brothers Barnum Bailey website for information about Funundrum and when it will be in your area!  You can read up on the various acts and learn about the performers before you go.  Then head over to ticketmaster.com and get your tickets before the show sells out!  Use the code MOM to get special pricing - 4 tickets for $44 and just $11 more for additional tickets!

When the weather gets this hot, it's nice to have something fun to look forward to that doesn't require melting in the heat.  The circus really is a great family activity and I want to thank Feld Entertainment for allowing me and my family the opportunity to participate in some wonderful summer outings!!

**Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post.  I did receive complimentary event tickets in order to facilitate this review.**

The Circus is Coming! The Circus is Coming!

I remember when I was 9, we lived in the small town. One morning my dad ran outside where we were playing and told us to hurry up and jump in the truck. We ran to the truck and he headed to the center of town, about 15 minutes from our house. He parked the truck in a parking lot with the pickup bed facing the street and threw down the tailgate and sat us up there. When we asked him what was going on, he just said "Wait and see." He ran across the street to grab us an ice cream cone from the Dairy Queen (you could do that back then, no one would come steal your kids or your truck and we sat there because it never occured to us not to sit there like he told us to do. There were about 50 other kids running around by us waiting for their folks to come back from Dairy Queen too.)

Just as he ran back across the street and shoved the cones into our hands, we heard an incredible roar of music and some weird animal sounds. Suddenly a very tall man and some other performers appeared from around the corner and started down the street toward us, with a full band and a bunch of stuff behind them! What ensued was my first experience with the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. It was AWESOME!! It was a parade down Main Street and it was incredible to watch! My dad watched us as we watched the parade and the performers and it was one of the best days of my young childhood.

The elephant part looked a lot like this, only there was a scantily dressed lady riding one of them. I remember the elephants had a particularly stong impact on me, partly due to their size and partly due to the giant poo! I remember feeling so sorry for the guy who had to clean it up. The clowns ran and drove around like hilarious madmen and there was confetti and balloons and music and candy being thrown by performers...it was such a great day!

Then, as if that weren't great enough...we got to go to the circus that night and see the show! It was the perfect end to a perfect day. Kids remember perfect days...I remember this one.

My kids get to experience the circus this year for the first time! Mom Central and Feld Entertainment are sending us to the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey "Zing Zang Zoom" Show in June. The show incorporates magic and illusion with traditional circus arts, which should make for a very entertaining event. I cannot wait to hear Little Man squeal when they make an elephant disappear! Actually, the real feat would be making the elephant poo disappear!

Here are the show dates, it will be held at US Airways Center:
Wednesday June 24: 7:00pm
Thursday June 25: 11:00am, 7:00pm
Friday June 26: 11:00am, 7:00pm
Saturday June 27: 11:00am, 3:00pm, 7:00pm
Sunday June 28: 1:00pm, 5:00pm

You can purchase a 4-pack of tickets for only $44 by logging on to http://ticketmaster.com/ and entering the coupon code: MOM. You can get additional tickets for just $11 each.

And be sure to check back in the coming days, I am working on procurring some tickets to give away on the blog!
